A Skadar Lake photography tour is a private boat charter timed for first light, built for wildlife and landscape photographers. You leave Rijeka Crnojevića at dawn, when the water is glassy and the birds are feeding. The boat moves slowly, stops where the light is best, and waits while you shoot. Tours start from €150, with longer charters tailored to the hours of light you want. The €5 park fee is separate.

What You Will Shoot
The route covers the lake's strongest subjects in their best light.
- The Dalmatian pelican colony, photographed from outside the 200-metre buffer with a long lens.
- The river canyon at dawn, with stone bridges reflected in still water.
- Water-lily fields, at their peak bloom in July and August.
- Herons, cormorants and terns working the reed channels.
- Pavlova Strana light, as the sun lifts over the horseshoe bend.
For species, timing and identification, pair this charter with the Lake Skadar birdwatching guide.
Built for Photographers
This is not a standard sightseeing run. Captain Dusko cuts the engine near feeding birds so the boat does not push them off, and he holds position while you work a subject. The boat gives you a stable platform with padded rails to rest a long lens, since a tripod transmits vibration on the water.
You set the pace. If the light is working in one channel, you stay. If a bird lifts, the boat is already quiet and steady. Over 15 years on this lake, Captain Dusko has learned where the pelicans fish through the day, which is where you point the lens.
What's Included

- Stable shooting positions for long lenses
Not included: the €5 national park entrance fee, charged per person.
Duration and Price
A photography charter starts from €150 for the standard sunrise route and is tailored to how long you want on the water. Longer sessions that reach more habitat are quoted on request. Prices are per private charter, not per person. Message Captain Dusko with your dates and the shots you are after for an exact quote.
Gear to Bring
Bring a 300 to 500 mm lens for the birds, a fast camera body, and image stabilisation for the slight boat movement. Use a shutter speed of 1/1000 second or faster for birds in flight. Pack a dry bag and a cloth for spray and morning damp. Early light from the east makes the pelicans glow, so the captain positions the boat to keep it behind you.
Weather and Cancellation
If weather cancels a charter, it is refunded in full or rescheduled at no cost. Calm conditions matter more for photography than any other tour, so Captain Dusko will move your slot rather than run a poor session.
Book your sunrise photography charter
Dawn light lasts about an hour, so timing and a quiet boat are everything. Message Captain Dusko with your dates and your subjects, and he will plan the route and confirm the price. The charter runs on the boats used for the River and Lake Tour and the Full 67 km Circuit, so choose more water time if you want it. You can also browse all options on the tours page.
